The Federal Housing Administration (FHA), which is part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), administers various single family mortgage insurance programs. These programs operate through FHA-approved lending institutions which submit applications to have the property appraised and have the buyer’s credit approved. The Section 203(k) program is the Department’s primary program for the rehabilitation and repair of single family properties.
Fannie Mae HomeStyle Renovation
Fannie Mae and the Federal Housing Administration have home renovation mortgage programs that allow buyers to borrow based on what the house is expected to be worth after the home rehab is completed. Homeowners can also use both programs to refinance their existing mortgage plus the renovation costs into one loan.
Other Renovation Consultation
While the FHA 203k and Fannie Mae standards tend to maintain the strictest requirements, often banks and other lenders have their own set of requirements for renovation lending approval. We’re happy to assist you in understanding and addressing these requirements.
